Salary Range:
$80,925 - $121,387 Position
Summary:
Under general direction and supervision of the Corporation Counsel, the Assistant Corporation Counsel performs complex and highly responsible legal work.
This includes preparing legal memoranda, ordinances and resolutions, preparing drafts, analyzing and reviewing contracts.
This position also handles civil litigation, ordinance violations and collection matters, represents and advises City elected and appointed officials and employees on diverse legal matters.
Manages the daily operation of the Legal Division in the absence of the Corporation Counsel.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications are basic to the functions of this position.
Experience:
At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a full-time attorney, including some trial experience.
Education:
Employee must hold a Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and have at least two (2) to four (4) years of experience handling municipal or governmental legal issues preferred.
Required Skills:
The following skills are basic to the functions of this position.
Handle diverse legal matters and issues as they pertain to municipalities.
Develop, propose and communicate legal solutions to complex legal issues.
Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and policies.
Communicate concisely and clearly legal principles and legal advice.
Litigate civil cases in court and before administrative agencies.
Adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
Prosecute ordinance violations (quasi-criminal) cases.
Draft legal instruments, ordinances and resolutions.
Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable in fulfilling obligations.
Required Licenses:
The person holding this position must have the following licenses:
Current and valid license to practice law in the State of Illinois.
Valid Illinois driver's license.

Residency Requirements:
Employees of the City of Danville must establish their principal residence within 45 miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within 6 months following successful completion of their probationary period.
