Medical Support Assistant (Patient Funds)

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for Patient Funds is part of the Medical Administration Service with the VA Medical Center in Danville, IL.
The incumbent is responsible for arrangement, coordination, and maintenance of Patient Funds accounts which includes amounts, sources of income, competency ratings, legal commitment data, Regional Office information for claim folders, and contact information for Next-of-Kin, guardian, or payee.
The incumbent monitors all admissions and is responsible for daily posting of gratuitous and private source funds.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
Supports Beneficiary Travel in processing claims according to National and Local Policies and Guidelines.
Works collaboratively with Fiscal and Medical Administration to account for monies deposited or transferred by inpatients.
Receives telephone calls in a courteous and timely manner.
Arranges transportation for Veterans, including VA attendants.
Supports patient safety standards by using two forms of identification of all patients.
Provides administrative support to all inpatient wards regarding all inpatient accounts.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
