Boiler Plant Operator
The incumbent will act as a journeyman boiler plant operator and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of high and low pressure boilers. In addition, the incumbent will perform preventive maintenance and miscellaneous duties in other trades such as electrical, carpentry, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and boiler plant, ect. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Work involved in the installation, modification, and repair of utility, supply, and disposal systems Install new equipment on the boiler plant system Water column blow down Boiler water test Change recorder charts Testing of control limits Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the entire boiler plant While working 2nd or 3rd shift or weekends the operator is the only person at the boiler plant and has the responsibility of all decisions for all facets of plant operations, maintenance, and repair necessary to meet operational needs of the Medical Center. . Acts as point of contact for all engineering problems during the off tours and weekends Read and understand technical literature on the operation and repair of the equipment located in the boiler plant Work Schedule:

Physical Requirements:
Incumbent works on concrete, steel, and wood floors. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must pass a physical examination, pulmonary function testing, and respirator certification by the Facility Occupational Health physician and be fitted to wear a respirator. Incumbent's face must be clean shaven in order to insure an approved respirator fit test. Working Conditions:
Work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, and greasy. Sometimes required to make installation and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Frequently exposed to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions, live steam, and hot pipes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scraped, bruises, burns, and infections. Subject to escaping gases when making emergency repairs. Also works in areas subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating equipment, dirt, chemicals, oils, and fumes. Adherence to prescribed safety practices and use/wear of appropriate safety equipment is required.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
