Pest Controller

This position is located at the Danville VA Hospital. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare, maintain and carry out routine treatment and pest management schedules for all medical center buildings and grounds, responds immediately and follows up on emergency pest management problems. Major Duties:
Responsible for recognizing, controlling, and exterminating all flying and crawling insects. Makes visual inspections to determine if pests may be present in the area. Selects and mixes approved pesticides and chemicals according to directions. Applies pesticides accordance with labeled instructions and warnings using safety equipment and protective clothing. Properly store, handle and dispose of all pesticides and containers as required by local, state, federal and VA regulations. Cleans, maintains and makes minor repairs to all manual equipment and power fogging equipment. Determine appropriate pest control measures such as how and work should be performed. Select equipment to suit the task at hand, select and set traps and baits in locations, which will be most effective. Document and maintain accurate daily records of all routine and emergency pest management areas. Keeps abreast of continuing problems and recommends corrective action. Experience:

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The Screen-out element for this position is; Ability to do the work of a Pest Controller without more than normal supervision. This is described as experience that includes advanced knowledge of common pest by sight, physical characteristics, habits and hiding areas; knowledge of the measuring system to mix appropriate portions of chemicals to make proper pesticide; document and maintain accurate daily records of all routine and emergency pest management areas; knowledge of new innovations and procedures or chemicals introduced into the pest industry; recognize common poisoning systems and procedures to follow in case of a pesticide accident; knowledge of powered equipment used by pest control, including functions, operation, proper care and cleaning of equipment. CERTIFCATION REQUIRED:
Current certificate of Competency in pest management in any and all categories as identified by the state of Illinois. Must be licensed and/or certified in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health in the categories of pest control that are required by this position. Evidence of license must be provided. How You Will Be Evaluated:

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Pest control is required for both the interior and exterior of the building. Interior work is usually done in dark, damp, dusty, hard to reach areas while exterior work may require exposure to heat, sun and bad weather conditions. Workers may be exposed to toxic vapors, liquids and powders and may experience cuts or bruises, insect bites and stings. May be required to carry or lift large, heavy cans or sacks of chemicals. Walk, stoop, work in cramped, tight spaces, occasionally crawl, climb and move equipment and furniture to carry out task.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
